Carmen Planas congratulated the winners and finalists, stating that “providing a safe and healthy working environment is a key factor for companies to stay competitive because companies are made up of people and if staff members are doing well, companies thrive”.
Planas has also explained that “occupational safety and health is a value that the CAEB has championed and promoted for more than 18 years through a quite extensive effort in providing training, information, advice and support to the local business community”.
The event’s attendees included the Head of the Department of Health Promotion and Occupational Epidemiology of the National Institute of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (INSSBT - Instituto Nacional de Seguridad, Salud y Bienestar en el Trabajo), Francisco Marqués; the head of the Social Security and Occupational Risk Prevention Service of the Confederation of Employers’ Organisations of Spain (CEOE - Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales), Marina Gordón, and the General Director of Labour, Social Economy and Occupational Health of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands, Isabel Castro.
This past month of February we had the chance to travel to Anantapur, India, for the inauguration of the dwellings that Grupo Ferrá has made possible through a partnership agreement with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation and also to find out more about the development programme that this non-governmental organisation is implementing there.
The project in India
We were actively seeking a solidarity initiative that was related to the Group’s action philosophy with the goal of thanking society for all the support we receive, and to also show that part of that support and of our customers’ trust in us can be transformed into opportunities for others. Thus, we took the decision to support the Habitat project of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, enabling the construction of homes for families belonging to the most disadvantaged sections of the Indian society and facilitating their access to dignified living conditions in a tiny village called Kogira in the Madakasira region.
Our commitment has led us to get involved in this home building project as a way to empower women in India. In line with this goal, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation records ownership of these houses naming the women as registered owners in order to guarantee their right to continue living there indefinitely, thus preventing their eviction in case that they are abandoned by their husbands or become widowed, something which might seem obvious to us but that is not always the case in rural India.
Through this solidarity initiative we have participated in the building project of a colony in Kogira, and our contribution has consisted of providing three families with access their own house, which will protect them from high temperatures (which can sometimes reach 45ºC), from snake bites or scorpion stings, or from the monsoon season, for which purpose these houses have been built at a 60 centimetres elevation above ground level in order to prevent damage in case of possible torrential floods during the rainy season. Some of them are also adapted for disabled people.
The houses have been built with good lighting conditions, ventilation and the basic sanitary requirements. Water is manually collected from wells. Construction of this colony prevents the emigration of these families to large cities, where poverty becomes misery.
The Universal Declaration of Humans Rights sets forth in article 25 that everyone has a right to enjoy decent and adequate housing and with this initiative Grupo Ferra shows that we can all do our part in order to address this great challenge.
This initiative has been so positive that it spurs us in our desire to continue supporting this organisation, to walk hand in hand with them in their ongoing fight against extreme poverty, which is still a daily experience for too many people. We urge you to join us in the satisfaction that brings participating in a solidarity action. It’s important to remember that, as the Hindu thinker Mahatma Gandhi said: "The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems".
The Vicente Ferrer Foundation has been working for nearly fifty years for the comprehensive development of the poorest and most disadvantaged communities of the Andhra Pradesh state. We encourage you to get to know them better and to try and find the most appropriate way in which you can cooperate with this foundation. You may find further information about them on the website www.fundacionvicenteferrer.org.
Act now! What you give is much less than what you get.
Grupo Ferrá is currently undertaking the construction of a single-family villa within a magnificent plot of land offering a 1,412 sq. m. garden, complete with a swimming pool designed in a functional style, at the Sol de Mallorca Residential Area, in the municipal district of Calvià. This idyllic location on the Mediterranean Sea can be easily reached from any European airport.
This villa is the first out of five exclusive properties that the developer plans to build, and it will be completed in 2018. Once finished, it will offer a built-up area measuring approximately 440 sq. m., distributed on two storeys, with an indoor garage and two large terraces, one of which is covered and boasts panoramic views, five bedrooms and a stunning dining room with a double-height ceiling of over six metres that will lend a pleasant air of roominess to the entire property.
The architect, Miguel Olazábal, has integrated the surrounding landscape and Mediterranean traditions into the design by using a colour palette based on white and earth tones, combined with large picture windows that add elegance and depth to the villa as seen from the outside, and luminosity and dynamism to its interior.

We are just a few weeks away from the end of 2020 and, undeniably, we will all be glad to see this year come to an end. COVID-19 has caused great turmoil worldwide and Majorca has not been spared.
Among such uncertainty and struggle, the Mallorca Preservation Foundation (Fundación para la Conservación de Mallorca) has proposed that we join an aid programme with the aim of bringing some light to the daily existence of many Majorcans, which has lately been rather grey.
Majorca Produces – Urgent Aid
This initiative is born out of a desire to help those in the greatest need and is proof that joining forces we can find great solutions even in the direst situations. An example of such solutions is providing fresh produce to 1,500 families for 2 months and helping small ecological producers on the island who, due to the pandemic, have experienced a drastic reduction in demand for their products.
To solve both problems, the Cooperative of Majorcan Ecological Farmers (Cooperativa de Pagesos Ecològics de Mallorca) has launched a proposal for the purchase of products that will guarantee an income to their members. The products, in turn, will be donated to the “Tardor” soup kitchen to feed vulnerable families.
Preserving the island also guarantees the well-being of its inhabitants.
The Mallorca Preservation Foundation intends to fund the purchase of sustainable local produce, raising €15,000 to maintain this aid for 2 months.
At Grupo Ferrá we feel truly proud and grateful to live on an island where hardship unites us more than ever, giving rise to such humane, supportive and effective initiatives as Majorca Produces – Urgent Aid. For this reason, when we were asked to contribution we did not hesitate.
Do you also want to help guarantee well-being on Majorca?
One of the elements that has surprised us the most about the programme to support the Majorca Produces – Urgent Aid programme is that 100% of the contribution that we make will be directly used for the project. This means that there will be no administrative fees. All the donations will directly reach those in need.
So far, the Mallorca Preservation Foundation has raised €5,000. If you also want to join this initiative, contact them by clicking here.
It has been 130 years since our founder, Pedro Francisco Ferrá Mir, started the family business, presently known as Grupo Ferrá and structured around three business units: Ferrá Tur, Baltyc y Protech. Our services include new build construction, renovations, maintenance of all kinds of buildings and health and safety management.
Today, after 4 generations, we are still a big family. This is the reason why we want to celebrate this anniversary, presenting our company through the eyes of some of our 65 employees that help build it every day.
Our most noteworthy projects
One of our most relevant construction works, under Pedro Francisco Ferrá Mir’s leadership, was the old GESA power plant. This is one of the highlights that his great-granddaughter and our Marketing Manager, Ana Ferrá, brought up when discussing our beginnings during her interview with Style in Mallorca.
For more information on this interview, click here or on the following image.
Our relationship with GESA continued with the execution of many more maintenance projects. Juan Arbona, master bricklayer at Grupo Ferrá for 24 years, remembers this clearly when asked about his best memories on working with the company:
“Those were some extremely rewarding years in which we worked side by side as a big team. Both us from Ferra Tur and GESA’s staff”.
A big family
This is how Raquel Carrasco, Financial Manager at Grupo Ferrá for 13 years, defines her experience at the company. When asked “What is your favourite thing about working at Grupo Ferrá?”, Carrasco adds:
“It’s wonderful to feel part of a company, where you are listened to and where your opinions count. And more importantly, you are treated as an individual, not a number.”
Upon being asked the same question, our Works manager, Tolo Soler, adds that after more than 20 years working at Grupo Ferrá:
“The feeling of camaraderie is one of my favourites. The good vibe with my colleagues and when I see that things are moving in the right direction and everything is going well”.
Our General Manager, Antoni Gurrera, has experienced this same feeling of a close team with a human touch ever since his first day at Grupo Ferrá:
“I immediately noticed the great atmosphere that we are so fortunate to enjoy at Ferrá Tur […] I was welcomed with open arms both by my colleagues and by the Ferrá family and, well, now I feel a bit like part of the family."
“Values, enthusiasm and commitment”
Our Site team manager, Víctor Trujillo, also mentions a big family when commenting on his experience working at Grupo Ferrá:
“After 19 years at Grupo Ferrá, I can define this big family with 3 words: values, enthusiasm and commitment”
Each finished project carries good memories
And this is how our Site manager, Lluis Alomar explains it, while also fondly connecting his best memories within the company with the birth of this daughter in 2010:
“Every time that we finish a project it's a lovely memory, because we have just completed a client’s dream house”.
From Grupo Ferrá, we would like to thank every single one of our professionals for the effort and dedication that they pour into every project. Thanks to this big family, we are still building our history, since 1890.

Coinciding with the 130th anniversary of Construcciones Ferrá Tur, our Marketing Manager Ana Ferrá was interviewed by Catherine López for the 2nd issue of the Style in Mallorca magazine in 2020. Ferrá, who is also a member of the 4th generation of our family company, offered its unique vision on our history, values and plans for the future.
130 years of quality and innovation in construction in the Balearic Islands
Construcciones Ferrá Tur, the company that started our journey as Grupo Ferrá, was founded by the great-grandfather of Ana Ferrá in 1890. Ferrá comments on our beginnings in the construction sector in the Balearic Islands, stressing that “at the time, construction was a very artisanal trade within the masonry sector, which, as a consequence, required a great deal of manpower”. She also explains how, thanks to a customer base living in the old quarter and the construction of projects such as “the old GESA power plant and the neighbouring Gas factory allowed us to maintain a sizeable staff over many years”.
The keys to our continuity
When asked how we have managed to overcome difficult times over the past 130 years, Ferrá clearly states that the diversification of our activity has been a key factor to ensure the continuity of Grupo Ferrá.
Nowadays, and to quote Ferrá, “our portfolio ranges from the construction of luxury residences, as well as multi-family buildings with singular projects, hotel construction, maintenance, and renovation projects both large and small.”
She also acknowledges the great work done by her ancestors, explaining that “each generation has contributed their efforts and dedication to maintaining our legacy”.
In this line, she highlights the example set by her grandmother, Francisca Tur Torres, who “was widowed when my father was just 14 years old”, Ferrá explains, “and, without prior experience, but with the help of two works managers and an accountant, took the helm of the company, which at the time was a very brave step”.
A first-rate management team and staff
Without a doubt, our team is another one of the elements that have contributed to the success and longevity of Grupo Ferrá. This is a fact that Ferrá emphasises throughout the entire interview and she reiterates it when stating that “our basic principles as a company are to focus on quality and safety, which can only be achieved with an outstanding professional team and, crucially, with the individual qualities and contributions that they bring”.
Thus, she explains that: “Hiring a professional Management Team, together with our first-class staff, presently lead by Ferrá Tur’s General Manager, Antoni Gurrera, in close cooperation with the Family Council, and the experience gained over the years […] is what allows us to maintain our market position”.
Grupo Ferrá in Ibiza
When asked about future projects for the company’s development, Ferrá draws particular attention to the fact that “In the short run, we are planning to start ‘our operations in Ibiza’, which is a project especially close to my heart, given that my grandmother was from Ibiza”.
